Busk-A-Move was established in 2001 to provide an opportunity for talented Workman Arts musicians to perform for clients, staff and visitors to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, as well as the chance to play at selected locations throughout Toronto and earn a modest donated income.
There are currently 10 buskers in the Busk-A-Move programme. Professional musicians who have received mental health and/or addiction services from anywhere in the GTA can audition for the programme. Auditions are held on an on-going basis and buskers receive remuneration for their performances.
"I have been a busker with Workman Arts since August 2005, and it is a lot of fun. It is a real pleasure to perform for people both at CAMH [the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health] in the hallways and special events as well as out in the community. I've recently played for the Busker Showcase at Parkdale Arts and Recreation Centre as well as Saturday Nights for "Our Place" over the past six months. I also perform for the Church Services at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Toronto. It is a real honour to be able to play at these various venues and entertain people with my own compositions of music."
