Workman Arts is currently recruiting an Executive/Artistic Director who will be responsible to lead the development and execution of the organization’s strategy and mandate. The Executive/Artistic Director will report directly to the Board and provide artistic direction and leadership to all staff, guest artists and member artists while supporting the organization’s vison, mandate and mission. The Executive/Artistic Director will also have a close relationship to CAMH via the VP, Communications and Partnerships and as a member of the Communications and Partnerships leadership team.
The successful candidate will possess an optimal combination of the following professional qualifications and leadership attributes:
-A post-secondary degree or equivalent is preferred.
-Minimum five years of experience in a senior management position, again, ideally in the not-for-profit sector possibly with a multi-service arts or even a mental health community-based organization.
-Previous artistic director experience is desirable, but can be supplemented by experience in the key features of operating within a similar organization as an employee or volunteer.
-Proven ability and experience in the areas of financial and human resource management, strategic and operational planning, and administration.
-Broad knowledge of and experience in fundraising.
-Knowledge of government and familiarity with current issues affecting the sector.
-Extensive experience developing effective relations with various levels of government, funders, donors and the general public.
-Experience working with people with the lived experience of mental illness and/or addiction is an asset
-Excellent written and oral communication skills, relationship-building and critical analysis skills.
-Experience working with a volunteer Board.
